Signing MOU with TallTech 2023

In May 2023, TalTech and Cranfeld Clinic OÜ signed a framework cooperation agreement under which new medical technology and digital health solutions will be developed for a new hospital to be established in Tallinn, basic and applied research will be conducted, and contributions will be made to the field of studies and start-ups.

According to Üllar Lanno, board member of Cranfeld Clinic OÜ, the whole medical world is moving towards a new era on a fundamental level and the importance of both technology and engineering solutions in the field keeps increasing. According to the head of the new clinic which will be completed in 2027, TalTech is highly competent in digital solutions and material technical solutions. “If you think of a bionic arm or leg or 3D-printed skin or an organ, this whole field is TalTech’s playground, and more and more of those contact points keep emerging where the engineering mindset has to keep pace with the medical mindset. Therefore, it can be assumed that in future medicine, a doctor will need an engineering expert with TalTech competence and futures intelligence by his or her side,” Lanno noted.

TalTech Rector Tiit Land added that the field of health care in general needs more and more workers and engineers skilled in digital technologies, who are able to devise and use new digital health and medical engineering solutions that support human health and disease prevention.

“Right now, Estonia is in a situation where the lack of medical personnel, the high cost of health services and the need for more efficient and personalised health care services require the wider implementation of health technologies. TalTech has chosen health technologies as one of the focus areas of its research and development activities, important in both university studies as well as in research, development and innovation. This means that all of our departments are engaged in health technologies in one way or another and that we can do even more fruitful work together with our partners for the better integration of these technologies,” Land noted.
