Started his research career in 1976 as a junior researcher in the molecular biology research group of Tartu State University , and continued in 1982 . senior researcher since 1985 . since 2010 as the head of the gene expression laboratory of the Institute of General and Molecular Pathology. In the years 1986-1992, he was the research director of the Estonian Biocenter , 1992 . since 2008, he is a professor of biotechnology at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology. In the years 1996 – 2007, he was the head of the molecular diagnostics center of the joint laboratory of the University of Tartu Clinic .
